Full Time Faculty in Chemisty at College of the Atlantic, Bee Harbor, Maine

College of the Atlantic (COA) is seeking a full-time faculty member in chemistry (open rank) to teach a wide range of classes to students of Human Ecology. The new faculty member will have curricular and creative control over the design of introductory through advanced courses. Beginning in Fall 2018, the successful candidate will teach two-term sequences in general chemistry, offered every year, and organic chemistry, offered alternate years. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop one or more courses in environmental chemistry, preferably with a strong lab component. We are also interested in courses on: materials science, chemistry of food, green chemistry, biochemistry, and other courses that explore the intersections of chemistry with the human experience as well as the wider academic domains of the sciences, arts, and humanities.

At COA, all students design their own program. We seek a colleague who is interested in collaborating on teaching and research projects across disciplines in order to offer challenging and engaging opportunities for students with a wide range of interests. Faculty are also responsible for advising and mentoring students, directing senior projects, and supervising independent studies.  Other service includes participation in our self-governed community through regular attendance at faculty meeting and committee work.  In the near future, we will be adding and updating laboratory space to our current configuration and will look to the new faculty member for guidance and expertise around design of teaching labs and curriculum-based infrastructure needs.
