The PRoduct Innovation and Social Mapping (PrISM™) framework was created to support product designers in developing products based on sustainable green chemistry and engineering design principles. It is intended to inform early-stage assessment and provide strategies for continuous improvement. The framework educates users on fundamentals while providing links to tools and approaches for more advanced assessment. The first version of the desktop application has been completed and NGC has received feedback from a broad spectrum of potential users. Please contact us if you are interested in joining our beta testers in providing valuable feedback.
NGC has a number of planned improvements to make the application more sophisticated and user friendly. This includes greater variety in the reports generated from user data to be considered by decision makers. Stakeholders have also requested the integration of an algorithm that provides an indicator of progress toward sustainability goals. These improvements require additional time and expertise to implement. NGC is actively seeking partners to support this impactful work. Please reach out to us if your organization is interested in improving human and environmental health through safer, more sustainable product design.
To create PrISM™, NGC collaborated with diverse stakeholders to better understand what businesses need to effectively compare and evaluate product sustainability. Stakeholders expressed the desire for a simple framework with checklist-style guidance that would help companies to evaluate whole products, and not just individual chemicals. Businesses need a way to incorporate information from chemical hazard, exposure, and life cycle assessments into a single, multifaceted analysis of their sustainability goals.
